Specific Job Description

This position is for the Intelligence Group Program.  It will directly support the Customer project managers holding responsibility for multiple development projects.  The range of support required spans from acquisition planning through fielding and O&M.  Project size varies from being on a team with two-three other engineers, to being the sole engineer supporting a Customer effort.  Key aspects of this position are below.


Position Requirements:

  • Represent Customer on-site and at development contractor facilities – focusing on technical and programmatic aspects of the project
  • Identify and manage software requirements across multiple segments and into an end-to-end architecture
  • Participate in software and firmware design reviews; identify complexity and risk in implementations; evaluate designs and implemented code for extensibility, modularity, reliability, and maintainability
  • Provide early insight into progress and issues, and communicate the ‘ground truth’ to Customer project managers as needed
  • Understand and help develop Customer-level programmatic approaches and planning
  • Understand and help develop Customer-level requirements, integration and test plans/approaches (be an active part in Customer-level systems engineering)
  • Understand development contractor/implementing contractor approaches to requirements
  • Review CDRLs and project documentation for completeness, accuracy, and technical soundness
  • Review requirements traces/flows to include the flow of Customer requirements into Contractor-specific implementation details
  • Gather, summarize, and synthesize contractor data for special topics
  • Identify Customer-level risks and develop mitigation plans
  • Track project risks and assess contractor mitigations in order to monitor progress, schedule impacts, and closure
  • Evaluate technical proposals and hours proposed for WBS elements
  • Review and provide comments on monthly technical review packages
  • Oversee software Discrepancy Report closure efforts and provide recommendations to the Customer on readiness for DR closure
  • Position requires periodic travel around NVA and to development contractors (primarily East coast)





Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering field required (Software Engineer, Computer Engineer)
  • Experience across the entire engineering lifecycle with focus on incremental developments to support specific field needs
  • Ability to assimilate data, understand problems, and succinctly report status and recommendations to the Customer
  • Ability to coordinate across engineering disciplines (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, development contractors, and FFRDCs 
  • Familiar with and experienced in the Customer’s classified mission responsibilities
  • Project management skills and experience, to include cost/schedule/risk planning
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
  • Proven record of building positive relationships with Customers at all levels
  • Experience in a software development environment
  • Experience in writing technical requirements, defining interfaces, writing technical analysis (and associated management briefing packages)
  • Must be able to partner with other engineers as well as other support contractors across the Customer organization
  • Experience required in capturing minutes and tracking action items to completion
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office tools.
  • TS/SCI w/poly and current BI (< 5 years) – this is a hard requirement


Requires 10 to 12 years with BS/BA or 8 to 10 years with MS/MA or 5 to 7 years with PhD.
