Responsibilities

 

Support the NASA Expendable Launch Vehicle Integrated Services 3 (ELVIS 3) contract on the Vencore team in a wide range of assignments, including the assessments of analytical items throughout the life cycle for each NASA ELV mission and build cycle for each NASA vehicle and associated payload/spacecraft. This position requires knowledge and expertise in the design, manufacture and operation of a variety of complex aerospace liquid propulsion systems utilized in support of space launch vehicles.  Duties will include monitoring launch services and launch site contractors for compliance with technical and mission requirements.

 

Candidate will perform reviews of Launch Services Program (LSP)-provided documents and technical assessments of relevant issues that arise during the integration process. Evaluation of these issues will require documentation of the issue as well as efforts such as independent analysis and recommendations on how to resolve the issue and may involve heavy communication with both NASA and Launch Vehicle Contractor (LVC) engineers.

 

Candidate will contribute to and present at engineering review boards on related concerns that affect future missions along with attending and contributing to LVC design reviews, reviewing test plans, witnessing tests, participating in mission integration meetings and NASA readiness reviews. Candidate will be required to clearly and concisely document findings and concerns and present to fellow engineers and NASA engineering management.

 

Qualifications

Requires 2 to 5 years with BS/BA in Chemical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or 0 to 2 years with MS/MA/MBA or 8 to 10 years with no degree.

 

Candidate will support the ELVIS contract performing tasks associated with space launch vehicle propulsion systems. Specifically, be able to understand and apply the relationships that describe the operation and performance of liquid rocket motors and main propulsion systems. A preference will be placed on experience, skills, knowledge and/or abilities with the following characteristics and/or items:

  • Launch Vehicle liquid/pneumatic/pressurization systems
  • First stage and upper stage propulsion systems
  • Engines using liquid cryogenic fuel and liquid cryogenic oxygen, LOX/RP, other mixes and systems using the densification of liquid propellants
  • Design, manufacturing and testing of engines and engine components
  • Expendable Launch Vehicle engines/propulsion systems

Candidate will be required to participate/oversee launch vehicle propulsion systems pre-launch integration, checkout, problem resolution and launch. A thorough understanding of the full launch vehicle/payload mission life cycle involving launch vehicle propulsion systems is a plus.

 

Candidate must be dependable, self-motivated, have good communication and interpersonal skills, good computer skills and be familiar with standard Microsoft applications and Windows OS. Candidate must be willing to travel.
