    The Coastal Database Administrator will provide science, stewardship and support services for the Center for Coasts, Oceans, and Geophysics (CCOG).  The Coastal Database Administrator requires broad background in database work in order to support both coastal data acquisition and the current coastal product portfolio which are based on a variety of database applications and data services. In particular the coastal data acquisition effort will be working with data providers such as NMFS to meet common formats for data submitted for both archive and inclusion in CCOG products.

    Primary Duties:

    The Coastal Database Administrator shall develop data products and services that incorporate the contributions and serve the needs of the diverse stakeholder community for the Coastal Data Development (CDD) Program, Gulf of Mexico Restoration, Coastal Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourism, and the RESTORE Act Science Program.  Tasking includes:

    • Configure, modify, document, and maintain commercial or open-source GIS and database software for CDD projects requiring custom desktop and/or web-based applications and user interfaces.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain scientific data workflows within the NCEI data architecture for CDD Program's; data analysis and product development, to include uploads and extractions from digital databases and other data sources; stores, formats, and data aggregates; and for REST-based consumption by Web applications and scientific computing.
    • Provide geospatial systems expertise to CDD projects for capturing requirements; designing systems that satisfy requirements; populating GIS databases; providing OGC-compliant REST-based geospatial services; and writing system technical documentation.
    • Provide geospatial data operations and maintenance (O&M) support for ingest, QA/QC, format conversion, analyses, modeling, database development, data layers, REST services, cloud services, and the production and maintenance of associated technical documentation.


    Required Education/Skills:

    • Bachelors degree in Science or a related technical field.
    • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience (BS Degree); 8 years with PhD
    • Experience in database management for spatially enabled coastal or environmental data including use of ArcGIS for Server, Oracle, Postgres and SQL and in linking geodatabases to environmental or coastal ocean applications related data services.
    • Industry Certification required


    U.S. citizenship  is required.
