Responsibilities

Description:

The ISI Cloud Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) is a key member of the Systems Engineering and Integration for the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG) program, reporting directly to the Platform Services Director. The Cloud LSE works across the NGA enterprise to help ensure the necessary strategies, plans, approaches, guidance and processes are put in place to help enable the successful achievement of NGA’s Cloud vision. This includes assessing the cloud migration strategy and approach and offering programmatic and technical recommendations.

Specific Cloud Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Maintain continual coordination with the Open IT, Cloud Migration Engineering, Cloud Acceleration, IC ITE Services Engineering, ISP Integration Team, Security Engineering teams and other team, as necessary, to ensure the Program is working against the proper Cloud priorities and is adopting a consistent approach to addressing Cloud-related challenges.
  • Lead necessary studies, AoA’s, reviews related to Cloud adoption challenges to help identify programmatic and technical solutions
  • Work with Infrastructure Modernization activities to help ensure baseline enterprise views, capability implementation roadmaps, plans and schedules, programming and budgeting inputs are consistent with the NGA Cloud vision.
  • Manage continuous customer and stakeholder engagement business rhythms and communications
  • Work with Cloud technical SMEs and vendors to shape cloud adoption approach.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • TS/SCI Clearance (with a current SSBI favorably adjudicated within the last 5 years)
  • Bachelor’s degree in CS / Math / Science / Engineering, or related technical experience
  • 21+ years of Systems Engineering and Integration experience
  • Customer-service and goal-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member under tight deadlines with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial cloud technologies and services, with emphasis on best practices for use of features available within Amazon Web Services
  • Demonstrated ability to explain technical issues clearly and accurately to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-contractor / government / commercial organizations
  • Previous experience with application design for or operation of PaaS implementations (for example Cloud Foundry, Apache Mesos)
  • Proficient with the following technologies/applications: Amazon Web Services, one or more application integration framework technologies such as Cloud Foundry, RedHat OpenShift, Apache Mesos, microservices, and enterprise-scale high performance processing technologies such as Hadoop and Spark
  • Previous experience with processes and technologies used in petabyte-scale data migration projects between on-premise infrastructure and cloud
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • MS in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, or related scientific or technical discipline
  • Relevant AWS (Cloud Computing), IT (ITIL), Security (CISSP), Agile (Agilist, CSM) certs
  • Experience applying SE life cycle processes, and detailed implementation planning of enterprise mission capabilities and services (from CONOPS and need definition, through requirements/performance analysis and AoA's, interface definition, mission capability epochs IV&V, readiness, transition, and O&S).
  • Knowledge of NGA Portfolio Strategic Initiatives (GSB, OBP, SOM, FCMS, GEOINT Services, OIT, CS/Globe)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of NSG/ASG Enterprise organizations, leadership, architectures, programs, systems, and NGA Acquisition, Baseline Control, Change Management Processes
  • Demonstrated experience with PaaS microservices/containerization technologies (e.g Docker, Rocket, Mesosphere DCOS)
  • Understanding of cloud-based authentication and authorization technologies and how to architect them for enterprise-scale use in the cloud (e.g. PKI, OAuth, OAuth2, SAML)
  • Knowledge of industry-standard design principles for cloud-based applications (e.g. The 12 Factor App or similar, proven approach)
  • Open-source database technologies compatible with geospatial data extract/transform/load processes (e.g. PostGIS, GeoServer)
